Apple Fall 2026 Event: iPhone 18 Pro, Foldable iPhone, and Apple Intelligence

Official invite is out · iPhone 18 Pro · foldable iPhone · Apple Intelligence~12 min read

iPhone on a dark surface—Apple’s 2026 fall event covering iPhone 18 Pro, the foldable iPhone, and Apple Intelligence

Apple sent the fall event invite on 26 August 2026. The tagline is Surprise and Shine, locked to Wednesday 9 September 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific (01:00 Beijing on 10 September) at Apple Park. The stream will run on apple.com/apple-events, YouTube, and the Apple TV app.

We had already bet on 9 September from the usual 14-day invite pattern. With the invite out, the date is no longer a rumor. What is left to unpack: what will be on stage, which specs look solid, and which lines are still supply-chain talk. Prices and the foldable’s final name wait for the keynote.

Earlier date math is in the 17 August schedule preview; 18 Pro pricing and on-sale math is in the 21 August release-date piece; the Siri / Gemini software thread is in the Apple Intelligence preview.

Separate “confirmed” from “still a rumor”

Confirmed: 9 September, 10:00 PT, Apple Park, Surprise and Shine, official stream is live. Not confirmed: model names, prices, A20 Pro benchmarks, foldable sizes. Anything below labeled rumor / supply chain / analyst gets overwritten by the keynote.

Confirmed: 9 September, Surprise and Shine

The invite landed on the same 14-day cadence as the last four years. The U.S. and U.K. use Surprise and Shine; some regional sites are not a literal translation, but they point to the same show. Press is invited to Cupertino; the video itself is likely pre-recorded, same as recent fall events.

For viewers, three clocks matter: 9 September 10:00 PT, 13:00 ET, and 10 September 01:00 in Beijing. Mainland China should follow whatever Apple China posts as the local stream.

What is different this year

Two things keep 2026 from being “another iPhone year.”

First, John Ternus becomes CEO on 1 September. This is his first iPhone keynote as Apple CEO. He already knows the hardware roadmap. The interesting part is how he frames the foldable, how he prices and positions Siri AI, and whether the show is leaner than the Cook-era “one more thing” build-up.

Second, fall will not launch four iPhones at once. Supply-chain and Bloomberg reporting both point to iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the first foldable (rumored iPhone Ultra) on stage. The standard iPhone 18, 18e, and Air 2 are more likely in spring 2027. Shoppers get a pricier, thinner September shelf; developers get foldable layout work before a “regular 18” exists.

What will ship: premium first

Product Status Most likely window One line
iPhone 18 Pro / Pro Max Fall headline (rumor) 9 Sep announce, ~18 Sep sale 2nm A20 Pro + 12GB; looks like 17 Pro
Foldable iPhone (Ultra) Biggest fall story (rumor) Same show; tighter supply Book-style, ~5.5 in closed, ~7.6–7.8 in open
iPhone 18 / 18e / Air 2 Not this fall (rumor) Spring 2027 Apple splitting the yearly cadence
iOS 27 / Siri AI Almost certain date drop RC with the keynote; GM ~a week later Apple Intelligence, act two
Apple Watch Series 12 / Ultra 4 High odds, same show Sells with the iPhones Health + Siri AI; not the main act

iPhone 18 Pro / Pro Max

The 18 Pro line is expected to look like 17 Pro: a 6.3-inch Pro and a 6.9-inch Pro Max, 120Hz ProMotion, small aluminum or titanium tweaks. The year-over-year story is silicon, RAM, and cameras—not a new hole punch.

A20 Pro: 2nm and 12GB

This would be Apple’s first iPhone chip on TSMC 2nm. Versus the 3nm A19 Pro, supply-chain estimates sit around +15% to +18% performance and +25% to +30% efficiency. Packaging may matter more than core counts: rumor has A20 using WMCM, pulling memory closer to compute for on-device models.

RAM has mostly converged on 12GB. The heavier Siri AI work in iOS 27—cross-app actions, personal context, longer voice sessions—keeps getting tied to that 12GB tier. Older phones should still run baseline Apple Intelligence; the full Siri AI pass is likely locked to 18 Pro, Pro Max, and the foldable.

Camera, modem, radios

The main rear camera is still rumored at 48MP with a variable aperture: more light at night, a tighter stop in daylight for sharpness. Tele and ultra-wide are also drifting toward 48MP. The front camera rumors swing between 18MP Center Stage and 24MP—wait for the slide.

On radios, Apple’s own C2 modem is expected in more markets, plus a satellite 5G class of weak-signal fallback. Wireless silicon may step from N1 to a rumored N2 (Wi-Fi 7 / Bluetooth / Thread). Face ID stays; some notes still talk about pushing it further under the display. Do not write “the island is gone.”

Price: $1,099 is probably gone

Memory inflation already showed up in 2026 first-half earnings language. Analysts’ main U.S. start band for 18 Pro is $1,299–$1,399, with Pro Max a step above. Against 17 Pro at $1,099, that is the steepest jump in years. Treat any local-currency guess as a placeholder until the price tile appears.

The foldable is repeatedly pegged at $2,000+, sometimes $2,200. That is another price band, not “one more Pro.”

18 Pro’s year-over-year story is 2nm, 12GB, and variable aperture—not a new front cutout.

Foldable iPhone (rumored Ultra)

This would be Apple’s first real form-factor change since iPhone X in 2017. The consensus is a book-style device: closed like a thick passport, open like a small tablet.

  • Cover display about 5.3–5.5 inches for one-hand use, notifications, and the viewfinder.
  • Inner display about 7.6–7.8 inches, wider than it is tall—split apps, documents, video calls.
  • Chip and RAM at 18 Pro level: A20 Pro + 12GB, so Siri AI still runs unfolded.
  • Biometrics more likely power-button Touch ID than Face ID—the chassis is too thin.
  • Cameras dual 48MP on the back, no telephoto; one front camera per display for unfolded calls.
  • Crease and weight are being sold as “almost invisible.” That line waits for hands-on. Do not treat it as fact.

Software decides whether $2,000 is a new device or an expensive Pro. If iOS 27 only shrinks iPad split-view onto 7.8 inches, it will feel thin. If it gets real two-pane Mail/Safari and Siri AI that can “see” both screens, it is a new product, not a doubled Pro.

The foldable may announce first and ship later

Even if it shares the 9 September stage, first units may be tighter and slower than 18 Pro, and may roll out by region. “We saw it on stage” is not “you can hold it next week.”

Apple Intelligence and iOS 27 Siri AI

Beside hardware, the software spine is Siri AI: a system assistant rebuilt on the next Foundation Models—not the 2024–2025 generation that could summarize notifications and then fail across apps.

iOS 27 developer seeds are in late beta. Repeated public talking points:

  • Cross-app actions that chain calendar, messages, and mail attachments instead of only launching one app.
  • Personal context from what is on screen, recent mail, and your calendar—not a cold start every time.
  • Visual Intelligence as a Siri mode in Camera: act on objects, text, and UI, not just recognize them.
  • System writing and image edits: Photos Extend / Reframe, Safari topic tab groups, Image Playground for wallpapers and contact posters.
  • On-device + Private Cloud Compute: short work stays on 12GB phones; heavier jobs go to Apple’s cloud, with a no-training claim.

For developers, two things land at once: App Intents stop being optional homework, and you have to choose what runs on-device versus your own cloud. We walked that fork in the WWDC26 Foundation Models on-device vs cloud note. If the keynote publishes Siri AI’s public API surface, that debate becomes “change Info.plist this week.”

Older hardware: baseline Apple Intelligence should still cover recent iPhone / iPad / Mac. Full Siri AI keeps getting tied to the 12GB tier. Use the 2026 device list until Apple updates it after the show.

Apple Watch and possible extras

Series 12 and Ultra 4 are near-locks, but they will not steal the foldable’s shot. Watch the health sensors and how the watch calls Siri AI—smaller screen, closer to the wrist, fewer confirmations. Camera AirPods still lean toward early 2027 in recent notes. Do not assume they share 9 September.

Pre-order, sale, shipping

Milestone Most likely date Note
Invite 2026-08-26 (done) Surprise and Shine
Keynote Wed 2026-09-09 10:00 PT Officially confirmed
Pre-order Sat 2026-09-12 Avoids 11 September; wait for the slide
18 Pro on sale Fri 2026-09-18 Usual “about nine days after the show”
Foldable delivery Same week or later May ship in waves and by region
iOS 27 GM ~a week after the keynote RC often the same day or next

“Launch” gets overloaded. 9 September is specs and prices, not the day you hold an 18 Pro. The foldable is the one most likely to announce first and ship later.

Wait, or buy a 17 Pro now

Three lines:

  • Your current phone lasts through September, and you care about 2nm, 12GB, and Siri AI: wait for the 9 September price tile. If +$200 is fine, order. If it lands at $1,399 with storage cuts, look back at 17 Pro discounts.
  • 17 Pro is already on a real discount and you do not run on-device models: buy the phone on the shelf. 18 Pro is not a new shape; the gap is AI and camera, not “it feels like a new object in the hand.”
  • You want the fold: budget $2,000+, accept tight supply, thin accessory support, and half a year before apps treat split-view as normal. Think 2010 iPad, not a yearly Pro bump.

Developers: event-week checklist

iOS teams will get the iOS 27 / Xcode RC, 18 Pro hardware, a new foldable size class, and Siri AI / App Intents constraints in the same week. If the same Mac is also for meetings and evening builds, the environment breaks before the features ship.

Minimum duty list for keynote day
  • Stand up a clean Cloud Mac or Mac mini with only the Xcode RC—do not mix it with the daily desktop.
  • Run a clean build and unit tests on current projects before you trust the new SDK’s signing or deployment target.
  • Reserve two Size Classes for the foldable: ~5.5-inch portrait closed, ~7.8-inch two-pane open.
  • Audit App Intents. What Siri AI can reach matters more than a switch buried in Settings.
  • Schedule device intake on a different afternoon from the RC upgrade.

The M6 Mac mini is already out. If you only need a clean build box, you do not have to buy another desktop for this week—rent a Cloud Mac and keep the local machine for 18 Pro and foldable samples. For M6 vs M4, see the M6 vs M4 comparison.

FAQ

Has Apple confirmed the fall event date?

Yes. The 26 August 2026 invite says 9 September, 10:00 PT, Surprise and Shine, Apple Park.

Will 9 September definitely include a foldable iPhone?

The invite names no products. The foldable is the most consistent supply-chain rumor, not a promise. Wait for the stage.

Will the regular iPhone 18 launch the same day?

Mainstream reporting says no. Fall is Pro, Pro Max, and the foldable; standard, 18e, and Air 2 look like spring 2027.

Can iPhone 17 run full Siri AI?

Baseline Apple Intelligence, most likely yes. The full cross-app, personal-context Siri AI keeps getting tied to the 12GB tier—18 Pro and the foldable. Apple’s compatibility list wins.

Will iPhone 18 Pro start at $1,399?

That is an analyst ceiling, not Apple’s tile. A safer bet is at least +$200 over 17 Pro. Do not lock a purchase budget to $1,399 before 9 September.

Buy 17 Pro now, or wait for 18 Pro?

If the phone you have lasts through September and you care about 2nm and Siri AI, wait for the price. If 17 Pro is already discounted and you do not need on-device models, the phone in stock is usually the better buy.

Close

Four sentences: The date is set—9 September, Surprise and Shine. The stage most likely holds 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, and the first foldable iPhone. The software spine is iOS 27 Siri AI. Price tiles and foldable supply are the live variables. The invite nailed the calendar. Specs wait for Ternus to talk.
