When does the M6 MacBook Pro ship? Apple’s October 28 Mac event, price, specs, and release timing

The M6 MacBook Pro is not on sale on 21 October 2026. The invitation already names a media experience on Wednesday 28 October in Los Angeles at 10:00 a.m. Pacific time, under the line “Pro and tell.” Apple’s marketing chief Greg Joswiak posted the same line on 19 October. It is the second experience of the month. The 13 October gathering in New York was “Welcome home”: the press release and the video were public, and hands-on time was for invited people. The 28 October plan follows that pattern. 9to5Mac recorded the invitation and the clock time.

There is still no press release for the products, the prices, or the ship date. Mark Gurman’s list, as written up by MacRumors and Macworld around 19 October, is one set: a 14-inch entry MacBook Pro moves to M6 and keeps the current chassis; 14-inch and 16-inch OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro models stay on M5 Pro and M5 Max; the iMac moves to M6; the iPad mini moves to OLED. Gurman points at Friday 6 November as the earliest ship date. Memory and storage are still tight, so delivery can land later than that Friday.

What the invitation fixes

28 October is still daylight-saving time. 10:00 a.m. Pacific is PDT (UTC−7), which is 01:00 on 29 October in Beijing, Hong Kong, and Taipei. Europe is already on standard time, so Central Europe is 18:00 the same day. MacRumors also notes that people who are not in the room will read a press release, and releases sometimes land around 9:00 a.m. US Eastern, which is 21:00 in Beijing on 28 October. Neither clock is an on-sale time.

On 8 October Gurman had put the announcement on or around 27 October. The invitation that went out is the 28th. Macworld leaves one opening: the announcement could still appear on the 27th, with hands-on time for reporters on the 28th. As of the 21st, the date on the invitation is the 28th. The experience is not a keynote at the Steve Jobs Theater, and there is no livestream scheduled for everyone.

The date is on the invitation. The price tags are still the current store

The chip, touch, OLED, and ship date come from Bloomberg and the write-ups that followed. The dollars, renminbi, Hong Kong dollars, and yen below are the 21 October starting prices of the M5 models already in four Apple stores. The M6 MacBook Pro’s order total waits on the configurator.

Two MacBook Pro models

The October reporting describes two laptops. The entry model changes the chip. The high-end model changes the display and the chassis, and keeps the M5 Pro and M5 Max that are already on sale. The name M6 lands on the first machine. On 24 September our OLED piece still had a window of late 2026 into early 2027; the 19 October reporting places that machine on this 28 October experience. Display and touch detail stay in that piece. The calendar in this piece is the later one. Neither piece has an Apple on-sale date.

14-inch entry model, M6

Macworld, citing Gurman: the 14-inch entry MacBook Pro moves from the October 2025 M5 to M6, and the display, chassis, and ports stay with the current model. This one has no OLED and no touchscreen. M6 is already on sale in the Mac mini. The laptop’s memory and storage cannot be copied from the mini until the configurator exists.

OLED touch models, M5 Pro / M5 Max

The high-end machines in the same reporting are 14-inch and 16-inch. The display becomes OLED. Touch is a second input beside the keyboard and trackpad. MacRumors also describes a lighter chassis, a reinforced hinge, and a Dynamic Island in place of the notch. The chips are the M5 Pro and M5 Max that have been on sale since March 2026. Gurman’s line is that this generation skips M6 Pro and M6 Max; M7 Pro and M7 Max are more often placed later in 2027. The later chip is not the one in the more expensive laptop.

Specs that can be written down now

Two products already on sale can carry a spec table. The first is the M6 Mac mini. Apple announced it on 25 August 2026 and it went on sale on 22 September. The chip is a 12-core CPU (2 Super Cores, 4 performance cores, 6 efficiency cores) and a 12-core GPU, TSMC 2nm, a Neural Accelerator in each GPU core, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. Memory bandwidth reaches 170GB/s at 24GB or 32GB, and 153GB/s at 16GB. The US starting price is $899 for 16GB / 256GB. If the laptop uses this M6, core counts and the process can be read from the mini first. Memory, storage, and ports wait on the MacBook Pro configurator. The mini’s 256GB is not the laptop’s starting storage.

The second is the MacBook Pro still on sale. Apple’s product page lists M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max. The 14-inch M5 is a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, up to 32GB of unified memory, and a Liquid Retina XDR display with 1600 nits peak HDR brightness. The store list for that chip includes a 16GB unified-memory and 1TB storage configuration. M5 Pro and M5 Max cover 14-inch and 16-inch. Those figures belong to the current lineup, not to an M6 that is not listed yet.

Today’s prices, and the missing M6 line

The table is the 21 October 2026 starting price in four stores for the standard display, with space black and silver at the same price. The US page is apple.com/shop, mainland China is apple.com.cn, Hong Kong is apple.com/hk, and Japan is apple.com/jp. Memory, storage, and nano-texture glass are extra. The M6 is not in this table.

Hong KongHK$15,999HK$19,999HK$23,999

M5 Max standard-display floors are on the same pages: US 14-inch (18-core CPU / 32-core GPU) $4,099, 16-inch $4,399. Mainland China is RMB 33,999 and RMB 35,999. Hong Kong is HK$32,499 and HK$34,999. Japan is 699,800 yen and 749,800 yen.

On 19 October Macworld spelled out how the entry price got here: the October 2025 M5 launched at $1,599; after the M5 Pro and M5 Max arrived, the entry price became $1,699 and base storage became 1TB; in June 2026 the US and UK stores moved to $1,999 on supply constraints. On the 21st the US 14-inch M5 is still $1,999, which matches that record. In the July quarter comments, Tim Cook and CFO Kevan Parekh said the supply-constraint impact on iPhone, Mac, and iPad would increase in the following quarter. The entry M6 may stay at $1,999, or it may rise again. Neither figure is an official M6 price.

The OLED touch models have no price list worth citing. The touch module and the OLED panel add cost, and the reporting only says the machine will cost more than today’s high-end MacBook Pro. Round numbers such as $2,499 or $3,000 are estimates from elsewhere. The September piece did not adopt them as a forecast, and this piece does not either. A mainland China, Hong Kong, or Japan M6 price is not a US dollar figure times an exchange rate.

When a buyer can take one home

All four stores are still on the M5 generation today. Gurman points new-machine shipments at 6 November. MacRumors adds a condition: if the pattern matches the 13 October home products, pre-order can open the day the 28 October press release appears. That is a condition, not an order button. The memory and storage squeeze already showed up in the June price rise, so a delivery date can still spread out after pre-order opens. On-sale dates for mainland China, Hong Kong, and Japan wait on the local release. 6 November in the US reporting is not a promise that all four markets receive stock the same day.

If the need is a desk machine rather than a laptop, the M6 Mac mini is already on sale. The announcement and the price are in the 26 August piece. The 17 September note still treated the October window as reporting; once the invitation landed, that window became the 28th. The earlier list is here.

How to choose across these seven days

  • A laptop is required this week. Order the current model. The 14-inch M5 is $1,999 in the US and RMB 15,999 in mainland China. If the work fills an M5 Pro or M5 Max, pick the tier already priced in the table.
  • The goal is the new entry chip in the same chassis. Wait for the 28 October configurator. The gap is seven days. The laptop’s M6 price and memory tiers are not written yet.
  • The goal is OLED and touch. That is the other machine, on M5 Pro or M5 Max, priced above today’s high-end MacBook Pro. The entry M6 does not have that display.
  • An M5 Pro or M5 Max already covers the work. The entry M6 changes the base chip, not the Pro core counts. The OLED machine’s chips are still this generation of Pro and Max.
  • The entry model should also move to the OLED chassis. Reporting places that step on an M7 in 2027. The timing is open, so it cannot be treated as a November delivery date.

A compile does not wait on this laptop

xcodebuild, the simulator, and signing are not inside a MacBook Pro that is not on sale. If the command has to run now, use a Mac that is already sold, or a Cloud Mac. On the plan page the 16GB tier is $101.7 a month and 24GB / 512GB is $200.3 a month, with checkout on the plan page. That rent and the laptop’s purchase price are two lines. The compile queue does not have to stop on 28 October while the M6 configurator is still offline.

FAQ

When does the M6 MacBook Pro launch?

There is no press release yet. What is fixed is the “Pro and tell” media experience on Wednesday 28 October in Los Angeles at 10:00 a.m. Pacific time. Reporting places the 14-inch entry M6 in that experience. Apple has not announced an on-sale date. Gurman’s earliest shipment is 6 November.

Will 28 October be livestreamed?

The invitation is a media experience, not a keynote at the Steve Jobs Theater. Public material follows the 13 October “Welcome home” pattern: a press release and a video. Hands-on time is in Los Angeles for invited people. 10:00 a.m. Pacific is 01:00 in Beijing on 29 October. If the release moves up to 9:00 a.m. US Eastern, that is 21:00 in Beijing on 28 October.

Is the M6 model an OLED touchscreen?

In the reporting, the 14-inch M6 keeps the current display and chassis. It has no OLED and no touchscreen. OLED and touch belong to the other 14-inch and 16-inch machines, on M5 Pro and M5 Max.

Will there be an M6 Pro or M6 Max?

Gurman’s line is that this generation skips M6 Pro and M6 Max. The high-end OLED machines use the M5 Pro and M5 Max already on sale. M7 Pro and M7 Max are more often placed later in 2027.

How much will it cost, and when can it be bought?

The M6 MacBook Pro has no official price. On 21 October the current 14-inch M5 starts at $1,999 in the US, RMB 15,999 in mainland China, HK$15,999 in Hong Kong, and 339,800 yen in Japan. The M6 may stay on that step or rise again. The OLED models have no price worth citing. The reported ship date is 6 November. Whether pre-order opens on the 28th depends on the press release.

Buy an M5 now, or wait for the 28th?

If a laptop is required this week, buy the tier that already has a price. If the goal is an M6 in the same chassis, wait seven days for the configurator. If the goal is touch and OLED, the machine is the M5 Pro / M5 Max model, not the entry M6. If the missing piece is a compile environment, use a Cloud Mac or the M6 Mac mini already on sale, and leave the budget off an unlisted laptop.

Separate the two machines, then read today’s price tags

28 October is the date on the invitation. Reporting moves the 14-inch entry model to M6 and keeps the current chassis. OLED touch is the other machine, in 14-inch and 16-inch, on M5 Pro and M5 Max. Today’s entry prices in the four markets are $1,999, RMB 15,999, HK$15,999, and 339,800 yen. The M6 price and a 6 November arrival both wait on the press release. A compile can run on a Mac that is already on sale.

The configurator is offline. The compile can run

xcodebuild, the simulator, and signing do not wait on the 28 October laptop. Cloud Mac 16GB starts at $101.7 a month, on a line separate from the MacBook Pro’s purchase price.
